Abstract

The legendary popular imagination represents an inexhaustible source, from which great Sudanese novelist Tayeb Salih scooped up - Although he was been away for years from Sudan - He remained attached to his land, his people, his family, their religious and social beliefs, as well as their popular ideas. and as it was said about him, "He is the son of the Arab-African civilization and ethnic mix - Sudan – He was born in the north and lived his childhood and his youthfulness in it, then he moved to Khartoum, and continued his university studies in it, and grant a Bachelor of Science...". Here we are concerned only with the manifestations of the popular and legendary imagination that were expressed through his narratives works. He usually chooses his fictional models from North Sudan, and this choice was represented in “Dumat Wad Hamid”, “Al-Zain's Wedding”, “Palm on the stream ” and “The Season of Migration to the North”.

This research touches on popular beliefs and the roots of mythical imagination in his works, and the ruling ideology in his works that directs the text and employs it in favor of literature and its sociological role. And if the inherent heritage hidden in the popular mind fights change and development strongly against the force that the government uses to force the people to do so; then Tayeb Salih mocks the behavior of officials who use the conflict in their favor and in favor of elections and inciting the public. And thus, the government fell, the first government returned to power, and the first newspaper in the country wrote: “Dumat Wad Hamid have become a symbol of the people's awakening.”
